The 'Whitaker Archives Project' started following my residency at the Whitaker in 2024. Having completed the residency and Exhibition I started to work with their Archives. I spent many hours trawling through their archives and found a few interesting items: some war poems written by a few different British soldiers in WW2 that were sent back to their lovers back in Britain and some items from a lady called Hetty Windgate, who was a member of the Women's Land Army in WW2.

 

I offered the project to the Fine Art students at Salford university and 5 students created some work and submitted it. However, the Whitaker didn't have room for an exhibition at that time. After further negotiations with their Curator we have agreed that the exhibition will be part of the next years residency's exhibition in 2026. The exact details and dates will follow....
