BIOGRAPHY

I am a British artist living in southern Sweden whose practice is not limited to one mode of production and encompasses: film, photography, sculpture, installation, drawing, painting and sound. My work is primarily concerned with history of place, historical events, archives, nostalgia, identity, climate change and the emotions and feelings from a certain place or event. In my current practice I will often look to walk in a place that has significant meaning to me, either from my own experiences or from historical events. I usually start off by recording walks (usually alone but occasionally with others) in the UK and Sweden on video and will then look to draw out emotions that will prompt me to talk about the reason for the walk and what feelings are conjured up. This is an important time to think, and the walk will give me the space to think and remember events from my past or things that concern me, such as how we treat our planet. I will then look to create a film that will pull together all these emotions, feelings and the conversation I have had with the invisible audience. I will then look at how I can best get these thoughts, feelings and emotions over to the audience.
In my recent work, I examine a variety of options when I create the art. By using found clips, existing home movies and video clips of things I see in the world around me, I create works in multiple formats to give an alternative look at essentially the same thing by presenting the art in either: installations in unorthodox manners such as in multiple windows in a phone box; or on a Virtual Reality headset. The clips are chosen to narrate the story which is a reference that is appropriate, or of personal significance to me. The installations that form part of the display are made of wood but also include various elements such as found items like an old-fashioned telephone or trash dropped in a particular area or they could be items for visual reasons such as a monitor or a VR headset.
The art I create is honest and intended to create a new meaning with every view. I want the work to create emotions inside the viewer that will draw out unique experiences from the viewer, where one person might see a personal history of themselves, another might see the political aspect of the work some might see more than this. But one thing that is intended with all of my work is that I want the viewer to connect to me and the emotions I felt creating the work and this in turn creates a unique interaction from every viewer between them and the artist.
