The Duke of Bridgewater

Medium: Graphite on Paper Size: 600mm x 150mm

Description: In my second year of my Fine Art university degree I started to explore the archives and came across some letters written in 1739 by the Duke of Bridgewater. I chose one letter that was a letter to his sister when he was travelling from Dover to St Omers in France. The Mural essentially tells the story of the letter. What initially seemed like a story that deserved to be heard from unrepresented information soon changed to that of a spoilt, privileged upper-class boy/man who did nothing but complain.

Discourse Concerning Death

Medium: Acrylic on Stone with wooden frame

Size: 110mm x 100mm

Description: In my final year I continued to examine the archives and I came across a book from 1669 by a Rev William Sherlock. The book essentially was a sermon and it turns out that he wrote it when he had been suspended from the church and published it because he wasn't able to preach it. I think it is a very interesting look back at history and the type of books that were written in that period. I also created a short video to accompany the piece which can be seen here. This is a reading of the conclusion of the book.
